The internal crisis rocking the OK Movement took a dramatic turn on Tuesday as its Director-General, High Chief Peter Ameh*, announced his resignation to pursue a senatorial ambition in 2027.
The development has thrown supporters of the proposed Peter Obi/Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket under the National Democratic Congress, NDC, into confusion.
In a letter sent to Vanguard, Ameh said his resignation takes immediate effect to enable him focus on his bid to represent Kogi East Senatorial District* on the platform of the NDC.
“I hereby formally tender my resignation as Director-General of OK Movement, effective immediately. This decision will enable me to devote necessary time and energy to my campaign for Kogi East Senatorial District, where I am candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC,” he wrote.
The former DG, however, stressed that his resignation does not affect his loyalty to the movement’s principal, *Peter Obi*, whom he described as “my leader.”
He said he would accept whoever Obi appoints as his successor, while thanking the former Anambra governor for his “exemplary leadership, unwavering integrity and enduring credibility” which he said inspired the formation of the OK Movement.
The resignation comes weeks after the movement was hit by a leadership tussle, with some members publicly denouncing Ameh’s leadership and accusing him of running the group unilaterally.
The OK Movement was formed as a grassroots mobilization structure to canvass support for a joint *Obi/Kwankwaso* ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Political observers say Ameh’s exit at this time could further deepen divisions within the group, unless Obi moves quickly to appoint a unifying replacement.
As of press time, the Obi/Kwankwaso camp and NDC leadership had not issued an official statement on Ameh’s resignation.
