The clamour for an Ogun West governor in 2027 got its loudest royal endorsement yet on Tuesday, with the Olota of Ota, Oba (Prof.) Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, and the Awori Traditional Council declaring that equity demands the next governorship slot go to Yewa-Awori.
Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, APC’s consensus governorship hopeful for Ogun State and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, praised the monarchs after the royal position was restated during a consultative visit by PDP factional candidate Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu.
“I am delighted and profoundly grateful to His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyemi and all members of the Awori Traditional Council for standing for the principle of equity, fair play and dignity of all sons and daughters of Ogun State,” Adeola said in a statement signed by his media adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro.
The senator described the Olota’s remarks as “regal, firm and polite,” saying the council delivered the collective position of Ogun West royalty on an injustice that has lasted more than 50 years since the state’s creation.
According to Adeola, the Awori stance was not reached in isolation. He said the traditional rulers consulted with their counterparts in Ijebu, Remo and Egba before arriving at the resolution.
“The royal father and Awori Obas’ stated position was not borne out of only their individual personal conviction but the result of consultation across all the traditional councils of Ogun State.
“The outcome of their consultation is the resolution that in 2027, the slot for governorship of Ogun State should go to Yewa-Awori of the Ogun West Senatorial District,” he stated.
Adeola said this is the first time in Ogun’s history that Ogun West people and their traditional rulers are speaking with one voice in support of his candidacy under the APC.
“For the first time in the history of Ogun State, the people of Ogun West and their royalties are united and agreed on their support for me to be the governor of Ogun State under the banner of the ruling party, APC, on the basis of equity, justice and fair play as well as proven competence,” he said.
He added that he would not take the trust “for granted” and pledged to run an inclusive administration focused on holistic and sustainable development.
The statement noted a similar position was earlier taken by the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, and the Yewa Traditional Council when Adebutu paid them a consultative visit.
That meeting, like the one in Ota, ended with royal fathers reiterating that after five decades, Ogun West deserves the governorship.
