A Chieftain of People’s Democratic Party [PDP] and aspirant vying for the National Chairmanship position of the party, Chief Segun Sowunmi has said that he is joining the race to reshape and reform the political space of the Country and to return the party to a sustainable path.
During the last general elections, no fewer than 18 political parties participated in the elections by fielding candidates with the quartet of All Progressives Congress (APC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party(LP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) emerging as the major contenders in the presidential election aspect of the polls.
But speaking against the perceived backdrop of the Country drifting towards one political party state, Sowunmi disclosed that it will never be a one – party state no matter the Politicking and intrigue going on, adding that the PDP is a formidable force to reckon with in terms of its opinion and stance on political barometer of the Country.
He stated that after 25 years of existence of the now opposition PDP, the party must have the ability to reform itself and making genuine progress for the interest of ordinary Nigeria.
“We should be able to be a party that is reform and runs according to its own laws, rules and regulations. We can be a party that is not funding in a sustainable manner.”
He pointed out that the Peoples’ Democratic Party[PDP] cannot continue to be a party that resemble the appendage of the alternate party but rather a political party that through history was able to recreate itself for the future and the lead country back to the path that is sustainable and glorious.
while reacting the Former Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande said recently Sowunmi noted that in view of the element of analysis and data and review made by the him did not suggests that the ruling party has manage the country better than the People’s Democratic Party [PDP].
The PDP Chieftain stressed that corruption and mismanagement of resources the ruling party is worst in this regards than during people’s democratic Party era and the fact and those evidences are there for Nigerians to check or see.
He pointed that true reconciliation can be achieved with the utmost sincerity in the path of the leaders and to makes sure that the past issues that caused disagreement was not revisited.
The former Ogun governorship Aspirant reiterated the need for all members to up their dues so as to avoid not at the mercy on one party chieftain or governor which is said was part of the problem the party encountered during the electioneering period.
