Former Super Eagles forward Michael Eneramo has died after collapsing during a football match in Kaduna State.
According to reports by SCORENigeria, the 40-year-old slumped on the pitch while playing at Angwan Yelwa in the Television area of Kaduna on Friday.
Eneramo, who had come on as a second-half substitute, reportedly collapsed without any contact from other players.
Eyewitnesses said efforts to revive him at the scene proved unsuccessful before he was rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Eneramo, who had retired from professional football, enjoyed a career that spanned multiple clubs, including Beşiktaş J.K. in Turkey, Espérance Sportive de Tunis, and Lobi Stars F.C.. After hanging up his boots, he was said to be running a football academy.
At the international level, Eneramo made his debut for the Nigerian national team in 2009 and scored his first goal in his second appearance, netting against the Republic of Ireland.
The official Super Eagles social media account paid tribute to the late striker, posting a solemn message alongside his image: “Rest in peace Michael.”
