The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency has registered and captured the data of 6,465,667 residents as part of the state government’s drive to strengthen governance and improve service delivery across Lagos.
The Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Tobosun Alake, disclosed this during the annual ministerial press briefing marking the second-term anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Alake said the figures include 4,058,333 adults and 2,407,224 children successfully enrolled in the residency database under the LASRRA exercise.
According to the commissioner, the LAG ID project is a major part of the state government’s efforts to improve governance efficiency and public service delivery in line with the THEMES agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration.
He explained that the identity management initiative is designed to provide Lagos State with a comprehensive database for planning, policy implementation and effective resource allocation.
Alake noted that the agency operates an open framework that allows government institutions and private-sector partners to participate independently while leveraging a centralised infrastructure for data sharing and information management.
He added that the initiative would further expand opportunities connected to the Lagos State Residents Card and support the state’s digital transformation agenda.
Speaking on security and technology initiatives, the commissioner revealed that digital traffic enforcement under the state’s safe city project has led to the tracking of about 86,000 cases in recent months and 737,000 cases overall.
On technology development, Alake highlighted the annual Art and Technology Lagos conference organised by the Eko Innovation Centre in partnership with the Lagos State Government to bring together industry stakeholders, policymakers, government officials and tech talents to advance innovation in the state.
The commissioner also disclosed that Lagos currently has 109 data protection officers under its data protection compliance project to ensure data privacy and compliance standards.
He said the state government now records an average of 250,000 monthly visits across its online platforms, supported by robust backend analytics used to monitor user engagement and improve responsiveness.
On infrastructure expansion, Alake stated that Lagos State has completed 3,000 kilometres of fibre-optic duct infrastructure across areas including Alimosho, Ikorodu and Ibeju, with plans to expand the network to 5,000 kilometres through private-sector collaboration.
