Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress has lost its direction and the founding ideals upon which the party was built.
Fayemi made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on State Affairs, a podcast hosted by Edmund Obilo, while commenting on the ongoing APC primary elections across the country.
The former governor lamented what he described as the absence of intellectual engagement and internal debate within the party, warning that the growing push for consensus candidates reflects deepening cracks within the APC.
“There’s no intellectualism in the APC because there’s no debate in the party,” Fayemi said.
Referring to a speech he delivered at the Southwest APC conference in Lagos, Fayemi stated that the party had drifted away from the vision of its founding fathers.
“I was very explicit that this is not where the party has come from, that we have lost our bearings and the vision of the founding fathers of the party,” he added.
Fayemi also criticised politicians allegedly lobbying at the Presidential Villa for endorsement through consensus arrangements, describing the development as a sign of internal crisis.
“It’s unfortunate that people are running to Aso Rock asking or begging for consensus. The inability to reach a consensus is implosion,” he said.
