Spanish football has been thrown into mourning following the death of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel after a horrific collision during a league match on Monday.
The 30-year-old died on Tuesday morning, November 3, 2026, after suffering a severe blow to the chest in a sickening clash with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono.
The incident occurred deep into stoppage time of the 2-2 encounter, forcing the match to be abandoned.
Tenerife confirmed the tragic news in an emotional statement on Tuesday morning.
“Broken with pain, with a lump in our throat and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic death, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesus de Miguel Alameda,” the club said.
“There are no words of comfort; There is absolutely nothing to mitigate this feeling full of sadness.
“We are with his devastated family, with his loved ones, with all the people of Tenerife who today mourn this cruel outcome.
“The family of Jesus de Miguel is grateful for each and every one of the expressions of support received, and also requests, from the bottom of its heart, maximum respect for his privacy, in these terrible moments.”
According to Spanish outlet Marca, De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest while being transported to the hospital and had to be revived inside the ambulance. His condition reportedly worsened overnight in intensive care before he passed away.
The horror collision happened in the seventh minute of stoppage time as De Miguel raced clear on a counter-attack.
Goalkeeper Owono came flying out near the halfway line and his knee struck the striker directly in the chest as he attempted to clear the ball.
De Miguel collapsed and lay motionless, prompting medical staff to rush onto the pitch. He was attended to for over five minutes as distraught teammates were seen in tears.
The referee initially showed Owono a red card for the challenge before abandoning the fixture.
