Gunmen have killed a pastor of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), alongside his wife and two children, in a late-night attack on Gako village, Rim Ward, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims were identified as Rev. Ayuba Choji, his wife, Chundung Ayuba, and their children, Cyril and Endurance Ayuba.
Residents said the assailants stormed the community around 11 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2026, firing gunshots indiscriminately and sending villagers fleeing into nearby bushes to escape the violence.
A resident, Martha Dalyop, described the attack as part of a persistent pattern of violence that has left the community gripped by fear, with many unable to sleep in their homes or tend to their farms.
The publicity secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder Association, Rwang Tengwong, who confirmed the incident, said the attackers appeared to operate in coordinated groups during such raids.
He explained that while some of the assailants targeted residents, others focused on destroying farmlands or blocking escape routes to hinder intervention.
Tengwong further revealed that within the past 48 hours, large swathes of farmland in nearby Kassa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, had been destroyed.
He added that crops including maize, cabbage, and hot pepper were affected, worsening concerns over food insecurity in the area, according to report by Lindaikejiblog.
