Ondo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo (SAN), has urged Nigeria’s political elite to shift their attention away from the 2027 presidential election, describing it as effectively settled, and begin strategic preparations for the 2031 race.
Ajulo said recent political developments have reinforced what he called an “undeniable reality” — that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains unmatched among potential challengers.
Kayode Ajulo made the assertion recently in a public statement where he addressed political developments ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 election.
Although, the comment was not tied to a physical event or venue like a conference or rally; rather, it was issued as a formal statement to the public/media, in which he argued that the 2027 presidential race already appears settled and urged politicians to begin preparation for 2031
While noting that opposition figures appear fragmented and ill-prepared to mount a credible contest, he stressed the need to preserve a vibrant and competitive political space.
He cautioned, however, against engaging in what he described as predictable and wasteful electoral battles that could deplete national resources and undermine the country’s future.
The Attorney-General called on politicians across party lines to pause, reflect, and reorganise their strategies instead of pursuing what he termed futile agitation.
He also urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies to deepen structured civic and political engagement aimed at restoring discipline, purpose, and competence within the political class.
Ajulo advocated the revival of a programme similar to MAMSER — Mass Mobilisation for Self-Reliance, Social Justice and Economic Recovery — to reorient politicians towards accountability, national interest, and meaningful service.
He recalled that the initiative, introduced during the late 1980s military era, played a vital role in mobilising citizens through civic education and community engagement.
According to him, respected figures such as Prof. Jerry Gana and Prof. Tunde Adeniran once led the programme, demonstrating the calibre of leadership needed for such national reorientation.
Reaffirming his stance, Ajulo declared that attention should now be firmly fixed on the future.
“The 2027 presidential election is as good as concluded. Therefore, what we must focus on now is the 2031 election,” he said.
