The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four police officers seen in a viral stop-and-search video along the Lagos-Benin Expressway over alleged unprofessional conduct and ethnic profiling.
The video, which sparked widespread outrage on social media, showed one of the officers allegedly telling a motorist, “If you are Igbo, I will detain you,” a remark that drew condemnation and renewed concerns about ethnic discrimination by law enforcement personnel.
Confirming the development, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, identified the arrested officers as ASP Elomore Sodayo (AP/No. 207454), Inspector Adefila Adewale, Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi and Inspector Odusola Peter.
Jimoh said the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, ordered the immediate arrest of the officers and directed a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
He assured members of the public that the Command would handle the matter transparently and professionally, stressing that any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with the Nigeria Police Force’s established procedures.
The Command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, respect for citizens’ rights and impartial policing, while urging the public to remain calm as the investigation progresses.
