The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has sustained the death sentences slammed on a hotelier and university proprietor, Chief Ramon Adedoyin over the death Mr. Timothy Adegoke, a student of the Obafemi Awolowo University.
However the prayer by the prosecution that the convict should forfeit Hilton hotels owned by him and said to the place where Adegoke was allegedly killed on November 5th, 2021 was quashed.
The other prayer that the convict should bear the cost of training children of the slain Adegoke was also quashed.
The appeal court judgement read in parts, “The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death.”
“Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside. Order of education scholarship to children of Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others quashed and set aside,” it added.
Earlier, Chief Adedoyin was convicted of murder by an Osun State High Court and subsequently sentenced to death
Adegoke was allegedly killed inside the Hilton hotels owned by Adedoyin on November 5th, 2021.
Justice Adepele Ojo had sentenced Adedoyin and two members of his staff, Adeniyi Aderogba and Oyetunde Kazeem, to death by hanging.
The lower court had held that Adedoyin’s decision not to enter the witness box was an acceptance of the murder charge listed against him by the prosecution.
