A fresh video released on Monday has shown an abducted vice principal from Oyo State appealing for urgent intervention, while disputing widespread claims about the demands of her captors.
Mrs. Alamu Folawe, Vice Principal of Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, said the kidnappers holding her and other abducted teachers and students are neither demanding ransom nor the implementation of Sharia law.
In the video released on June 8, 2026, Mrs. Folawe urged Nigerians to stop politicising the abduction and focus on efforts to secure the victims’ freedom.
According to her, reports suggesting that the kidnappers are demanding money or seeking the introduction of Sharia law are false.
“It seems that some people are trying to complicate problems for us. They showed copies of print papers report that they are asking for Sharia to be entrenched in the country and N50 billion(ransom). These are not true. They are not asking for Sharia law or money. They are not asking us to worship in any particular way. We were left alone,” she said.
The abducted vice principal maintained that the kidnappers’ sole demand is the release of some of their members currently in custody.
“Their only demand is the release of some of their members. Nigerians should stop playing politics with our lives. Some people are creating problems for us already. Our lives are in your hands,” she pleaded.
The latest video comes amid growing concern over the fate of teachers and students abducted from communities in Oriire Local Government Area.
Security agencies and government authorities have intensified efforts to secure the release of the victims, while aerial surveillance and other rescue operations continue in the affected areas.
The emergence of the video is expected to spark fresh debate over the motives of the abductors and the best approach to securing the safe return of those still in captivity.
Families of the victims have continued to appeal to authorities to act swiftly, expressing fears over the safety and wellbeing of their loved ones as the ordeal enters another week.
