The Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB) Abeokuta says scores of persons that boarded a lorry heading to the direction of its Campus some days ago are not students of the university.
The FUNAAB while reacting to a trending video portraying students of the institution as boarding a mini lorry popularly known as “Dangaria” to Campus, added that the people seen in the video were UTME candidates who came to FUNAAB for their Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME).
Clarifying this on Friday in a statement through Mr Kola Adepoju, Head, Directorate of Public Relations, the varsity explained that the said video was recorded last week when the candidates who came to write the UTME overwhelmed the available commercial vehicles at motor parks around the University.
It, therefore, urged stakeholders and the public at large to disregard the content of the video clip, dismissing it as another tissue of fake news fabricated by mischief makers to smear the image of FUNAAB.
“Our attention has been drawn to a video clip on TikTok portraying students of Federal University of Agriculture,Abeokuta (FUNAAB) as boarding a mini lorry popularly known as “Dangaria” to Campus.
“We wish to clarify that those in the lorry are not students of FUNAAB but some of the thousands of candidates who came massively to write Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in our University last week as one of the designated Centres.
“Needless to inform stakeholders and the Public in general that this video was recorded last week when candidates who came to write UTME overwhelmed the available commercial vehicles at motor parks around the University.
“As a result, some of the candidates took advantage of free ride offered by a lorry heading to a Quarry site which is outside and after the University and alighted at the main entrance of our Campus.
“A probing look at the video confirmed that the Lorry did not branch to our University main entrance, rather it continued its journey to the Quarry site located few kilometres after the University.
“We urge stakeholders and the Public at large to disregard the content of the video clip which is another tissue of fake news fabricated by mischief makers to smear the image of our University.
“As a matter of fact, it’s on record that our University provided buses to convey candidates from some Bus Stops to Campus, to cushion the effect of transportation challenges caused by their overwhelming turn out for the examination,” it stated.
