The Lagos State Police Command has disarmed and detained an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Omotayo Olajide, following the fatal shooting of a young girl, Omole Taiwo, and the injury of another during a police operation in the Nosamu area of Ajegunle, Lagos.
The police confirmed the development on Saturday, stating that the tragic incident occurred on Thursday night, November 5, 2026, between 9:30 pm and 10 pm, when officers were deployed to the area to restore order amid a violent confrontation between two rival groups.
The groups, identified as the Nosamu Boys and Alayabiagba Boys, were reportedly engaged in a violent dispute over toll collection. Members of the rival groups were said to have been armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, ASP Olajide discharged his firearm while attempting to contain the violence. However, the gunshot struck two young girls who were caught in the incident.
Adebisi disclosed that the victims were immediately rushed to Ajeromi General Hospital for emergency medical attention.
While Omole Taiwo was subsequently transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where she was later confirmed dead, the second victim remained hospitalised in stable condition.
Expressing regret over the incident, the police spokesperson said the Command deeply regretted the loss of an innocent life and had taken immediate steps to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the shooting were properly investigated.
She confirmed that the officer involved had been disarmed and detained, while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive and impartial investigation.
According to the Command, the investigation is expected to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting and determine the appropriate legal and disciplinary actions against anyone found responsible.

During the visit, Fatai reportedly assured the family that the police would ensure justice was served, stressing that no officer found culpable would be protected from accountability.
