Abia State Government has dismissed as false and misleading reports claiming the state has not passed the State Police Bill.
In a recent statement, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, said the Abia State House of Assembly has since passed the Bill.
“The report is inaccurate, misleading, and does not reflect the true position of events in the State,” Ukoha said.
He said the passage was in line with the ongoing constitutional reform process and Abia’s commitment to strengthening community-based policing and enhancing security of lives and property.
According to him, the move demonstrates Abia’s readiness and proactive stance on state policing, as championed by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The government urged members of the public, media practitioners and stakeholders to disregard the erroneous report and rely only on verified information from official channels.
It also cautioned the media to always verify facts before publication to avoid misleading the public.
“The Abia State Government remains committed to transparency, accuracy in public discourse, and to working with the Federal Government and other States of the Federation to ensure the successful implementation of State Police in Nigeria,” the statement added.
