Actress Nkechi Blessing has attributed her defeat to reality TV star Phyna in their celebrity boxing bout to her limited preparation, revealing that she trained for just two days before stepping into the ring.
Phyna defeated Nkechi Blessing by a fourth-round knockout in the early hours of Friday, October 2, bringing an eagerly anticipated celebrity showdown to an abrupt end after four rounds of action.
The fight had attracted considerable attention from fans and generated significant buzz on social media, particularly because of the heated exchanges between the two entertainers during the build-up to the event.
Speaking during a live session on social media after the bout, Nkechi acknowledged that she was not a professional boxer and said the short period she spent training placed her at a disadvantage.
According to the actress, Phyna had been preparing for the fight for considerably longer and had been working on her fitness and movement ahead of the contest.
“I’m not a boxer and I only train for two days. Do you know how long Phyna had been training? She was running, I told her to come close, why are you running like a woman? Why are you fighting like a woman. I would have beaten her.”
Nkechi’s comments put the spotlight on the difference in preparation between both fighters and offered her explanation for why the contest ultimately went Phyna’s way.
While the actress maintained that she could have defeated Phyna under different circumstances, the reality TV star appeared to benefit from her greater preparation once the fight began.
The bout came after a tense promotional build-up between the two entertainers. Their rivalry intensified during activities leading up to the October 1 event, with the verbal exchanges eventually spilling over into a physical confrontation at a press event.
Organisers had to intervene and separate the pair as tensions boiled over, adding further anticipation to their eventual meeting inside the ring.
Once the fight got underway, however, Phyna appeared to adopt a more mobile approach. She moved around the ring, used her speed to create distance and landed punches while limiting prolonged exchanges with Nkechi.
The strategy appeared to pay off as the rounds progressed, with Phyna eventually finding the opening she needed to finish the contest in the fourth round.
The knockout handed Phyna victory in one of the most talked-about celebrity bouts of the event, while Nkechi was left to point to her drastically shorter training period as a major factor in the outcome.
Beyond the headline clash, the wider “Chaos in the Ring” event also produced other dramatic moments, including a confrontation involving entertainers Carter Efe and Speed Darlington.
For Nkechi, however, the immediate takeaway from the night was clear: she believes the outcome could have been different had she entered the ring with more preparation.
