The Catholic priest polled 473,933 votes to beat his closest rival and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Titus Uba, who scored 223,913.
The Returning Officer, Prof Faruq Kuta and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna declared Alia the winner.
Alia, is expected to take over from Governor Samuel Ortom of the PDP G5.
Also, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Sheriff Oborevwori has been declared winner of the Saturday’s Governorship election in Delta State.
Oborevwori defeated Senator Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled a total of 240,229 votes.
The PDP’s Oborevwori polled 360,234 total votes.
The deputy president of the Senate and the senator representing the Delta State Central Senatorial District, Omo-Agege in only four local governments out of 25 local government areas in the state.
The State Returning Officer, Prof Georgewill Abraham, while declaring Oborevwori as the winner of the governorship election at the INEC headquarters in Asaba, said the PDP candidate “having met the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned as governor-elect.”
