By Hadiza Mohammed, Northern Operation Africa’s richest man and President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has explained the reason behind a prayer session that recently sparked reactions on social media, saying his supplication was an expression of gratitude to Allah rather than a request for more blessings. The billionaire industrialist made the clarification after a social media user shared a photograph of him praying and questioned what someone as wealthy as Dangote could still be asking God for. The post generated discussions about the relationship between wealth, faith and prayer, prompting the business mogul to explain the significance of the moment. Responding to the online commentary, Dangote said he was not asking Allah for anything but was simply expressing appreciation for the blessings he had received. “Someone posted my photo on social media asking what kind of prayer I was making. I am not asking Allah for anything, I am thanking Him for the blessings He has bestowed on me,” he said. The photograph showed Dangote seated on a prayer mat with his hands raised in supplication alongside other worshippers. His response offered a glimpse into his personal approach to faith, emphasising gratitude as an important part of his relationship with Allah, irrespective of his financial success. Dangote, whose business interests span several sectors, including cement, sugar and oil refining, is widely recognised as one of Africa’s most influential businessmen. Beyond his business empire, he is also known for his philanthropic activities and public expressions of his Islamic faith. His remarks have brought renewed attention to the importance of gratitude in religious practice, highlighting the view that prayer is not solely about seeking material blessings but can also serve as an opportunity to appreciate those already received.
