The curtain has finally fallen on the remarkable life of veteran actor Olu Jacobs, as family, friends, colleagues and admirers gathered in Lagos on Friday to bid the legendary thespian a final farewell.
At This Present House Church in Lekki, the atmosphere was one of grief, remembrance and gratitude as members of the entertainment industry and other dignitaries came together to honour a man whose voice, presence and performances left an indelible mark on Nigerian cinema.
The cerebral actor who groomed many died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84.
For many who knew and worked with him, the funeral was more than a ceremony. It was a moment to celebrate a life that touched generations.
Among those who paid tribute was entertainment entrepreneur and singer Darey Art Alade, who performed his emotional hit song “Pray For Me.” The song holds a special connection to the Jacobs family, having featured both Olu Jacobs and his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva.
The performance added an especially poignant moment to the proceedings, bringing memories of the beloved actor and his enduring bond with the entertainment community to the fore.
Another deeply personal moment came when Olu Jacobs’ son, Olugbenga Jacobs, presented his father’s biography during the funeral proceedings. The presentation offered a glimpse into the life and legacy of a man whose career stretched across decades and whose work helped shape the Nigerian acting tradition.
The funeral followed a Night of Tributes held on Wednesday at Glover Memorial Hall on Lagos Island, where Nollywood stars, friends and well-wishers gathered to celebrate the late actor and share memories of his extraordinary career.
As mourners gathered around his family on Friday, the tributes reflected the many lives Olu Jacobs touched—not only as an actor, but as a husband, father, colleague, mentor and cultural icon.
For Nollywood, his passing marks the end of an era. But for those who loved him and audiences who grew up watching him, his performances and the memories they created will remain long after the final goodbye.
Olu Jacobs may have taken his final bow, but the legacy he built on stage and screen lives on.
