Dozens of armed men have invaded Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, herding away no fewer than 25 schoolgirls and killing an official, Mallam Hassan Yakubu, identified as the school’s Vice Principal.
The armed men who were suspected to be bandits hit the school on Sunday night, also gravely injured some people during the attack before escaping with the captive – schoolgirls.
It was learnt that few unidentified bodiels were seen in the school premises before dawn on Monday.
The assailants, sources said, came in their large numbers and started shooting sporadically for a better part of the night before gaining access to the school premises.
CSP Nafiu Abubakar, Kebbi Police Command spokesperson told reporters that a special police team had been mobilised to conduct search and rescue operations for the abducted students.
He also assured that efforts were being intensified to ensure none of the captives gets hurt by the bandits.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, was committed to seeing the end to the menace of bandits in the state.
Meanwhile, the Kebbi State Government has confirmed a late-night assault on Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko-Wasagu local government area, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, where dozens of schoolgirls were abducted by bandits.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed the incident on Monday, saying details were still being collated.
The Daily Crucible reports that the invasion left the school’s vice principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, dead, while several others were injured as panic – stricken students fled in different directions.
Also, Deputy Governor Umar Tafida had visited the school, in company of top government officials, to assess the situation, even as the state government urged residents to remain calm as rescue operations intensified. Officials are liaising with families of the abducted students.
