The Delta State Police Command has revealed that Pastor David Bello, husband of the Special Adviser to Delta State governor on Trade and Export, Chief Love Shimite Bello, is in protective custody.
The Command which denied that it arrested Bello in connection with the death of his wife, Shimite, on Easter Sunday, said that he was only placed in protective custody over concerns for his safety as the family of the deceased has lodged a complaint over the circumstances of their daughter’s death.
The family claimed that the husband could have played a role in her mysterious death.
Earlier, The Daily Crucible reports that Mrs. Shimite Bello Love (née Nwakalo), allegedly died of food poisoning on Easter Sunday.
Family sources said that her husband, Pastor David Favour Love, had been arrested by the police following suspicion that the wife died of food poisoning. Those who saw her lifeless body claimed she was foaming from the mouth before her death.
The late special adviser was said to have passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital, Asaba, where she was rushed to for emergency treatment.
A source who craved anonymity, said that Shimite was in good health just a day before her demise.
The anonymous source, claimed that the family’s alarm was raised when Shimite’s maid called her elder brother, expressing concern that the governor’s aide had in the house all day.
However, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, said the husband called to report the death of his wife and expressed fear also that the family of the woman was threatening him.
According to Edafe, the police acting up on the husbands concern, dispatched a team to rescue him from the house and afterwards placed him in protective custody.
“He (the husband) was the one who called to report that his wife died early this morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked. It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety,” the Police spokesman stated.
The police spokesperson noted that since the deceased family had filed a complaint, detectives too have begun investigations to unravel the circumstances of the Governor’s aide death.
“We are currently investigating. In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes,” he said.
