President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered a thorough investigation of the alleged bulk payment of over N500million into a private account by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation where Dr. Betta Edu is the Minister.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Sunday, January 7, in a statement.
The Daily Crucible reports that President Tinubu had recently approved the suspension and investigation of Halima Shehu, National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Program Agency (NSIPA), over alleged financial impropriety of about N30 billion.
The minister said the government is aware of the narratives and assured Nigerians that it takes these issues most seriously, stressing that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Tinubu, is transparent and accountable to the people, and committed to ensuring that public funds are allocated and utilized effectively.
The Minister noted that the government is also determined to unravel the truth as it relates to this matter, and assures that appropriate action will be taken, urging Nigerians to be patient as government investigate the allegation and establish the truth.
