Senator Solomon Adeola, widely known as Yayi and representing Ogun West Senatorial District, has officially signalled his ambition to contest the 2027 Ogun State governorship election after securing the ₦50 million All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination forms.
The forms were obtained on his behalf, marking his formal entry into the race for the state’s top seat. At a brief ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, declared the process open and presented the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to Adeola’s proxy.
The development comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rolls out its timetable for the 2027 general elections.
According to the schedule, Presidential and National Assembly polls will hold on January 16, 2027, followed by governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on February 6, 2027.
INEC also fixed April 23 to May 30, 2026, for party primaries and the resolution of related disputes. Campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections are set to begin on August 19, 2026, while governorship and state assembly campaigns will commence on September 9, 2026.
APC Consensus Shaken as Hunye Joins Ogun Governorship Race
Meanwhile, a former Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives in Ogun State, Abayomi Semako Hunye, has obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination form, a move that may unsettle the party’s consensus arrangement ahead of the 2027 election.
Hunye’s entry into the race comes despite the recent endorsement of Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the APC’s consensus candidate.
The former commissioner, who also served in the Civil Service Commission, reportedly secured the nomination form through a third party in Abuja on the same day Adeola obtained his own form via his media aide, Chief Kayode Odunaro.
Hunye confirmed to told journalists that he had purchased the form.
“That’s a fact,” he said curtly, even as he bluntly took it exception to a question bordering on whether his decision to obtain a nomination form was not an affront to the stance of the party caucus on the already consensus governorship candidate.
“Don’t ask me such a question, please,” he said.
The Daily Crucible reports that Party leaders in the state, including Governor Dapo Abiodun, had earlier backed Adeola, the Aremo of Yewaland, at a strategic caucus meeting held at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta.
The meeting convened by the state chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, drew prominent stakeholders such as former governors Olusegun Osoba, Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel, alongside other aspirants including Iyabo Obasanjo, Gboyega Isiaka, Tunde Lemo, and Isiaq Akinlade.
However, Hunye, who hails from Ogun West Senatorial District like Adeola, was absent from the meeting where the consensus decision was reached.
