President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an 18-month tenure extension for the heads of the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service to address succession gaps and ensure continuity in both agencies.
The affected officers are Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
Under the extension, Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will run until June 30, 2028.
The approval followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to give the board sufficient time to appoint successors and address succession arrangements in both services.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu commended the two service chiefs for the reforms recorded under their leadership.
The President also charged them to consolidate the gains achieved and sustain progress in their respective agencies.
Nwakuche was nominated by Tinubu as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, with the Senate confirming his appointment in March 2025.
Similarly, Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, and received Senate confirmation on March 1, 2024.
The latest decision extends the leadership tenures of both officers as the Federal Government moves to ensure continuity in the administration of the correctional and immigration services.
The announcement was dated October 19, 2026.
