Human rights activist and co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls Movement, Aisha Yesufu, has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that they would enjoy the “dividends of their sweat” if elected senator in 2027.
Yesufu made the pledge on Sunday in a statement posted on her verified X handle, where she unveiled key components of the proposed Abuja Residents Empowerment Bill she intends to sponsor if voted into office.
According to her, the bill would focus on economic empowerment, protection of tenants, and support for small businesses, particularly those owned by women and youths.
She explained that the proposed legislation would mandate quotas for youth- and women-led businesses in government contracts within the FCT.
“The Rent Control component of my Bill will protect you from unjust rent hikes. Double taxation elimination, Skills Empowerment spending that empowers Abuja residents with real skills,” she wrote.
The activist also pledged to improve access to finance for entrepreneurs through targeted micro-loan schemes funded from taxes generated in the nation’s capital.
“Access to Capital mandates that ensure a portion of Abuja taxes is used to provide micro-loans to support businesses,” she added.
Yesufu, known for her outspoken stance on governance and accountability, has continued to signal political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with growing focus on issues affecting residents of the FCT.
