Panic swept through the Ibogun Campus of Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State after suspected armed robbers launched a brazen overnight attack on student hostels.
The incident, which reportedly occurred around midnight, saw a gang of about 12 armed men invade multiple hostels, dispossessing students of phones, laptops, and other valuables.
In the chaos, the attackers were also said to have made away with a student’s vehicle.
Eyewitness accounts shared on social media platform X described how the gunmen fired sporadically as they moved from one hostel to another, triggering fear and confusion among residents.
Several students reportedly sustained injuries during the coordinated predawn attack, with some victims left bleeding before help arrived.
The attack has since heightened concerns over security around the campus and the safety of students living off-campus.
Reading, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Mr. Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the command had commenced an investigation into the midnight attack.
Babaseyi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), added that the Divisional Police Officer of Ibogun Division and the Area Commander had been deployed to the scene to assess the situation and reassure students and residents of their safety.
