The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will commence nationwide on October 9, 2026.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Monday in Kaduna during the commission’s North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with Staff and Readiness Assessment for the 2027 General Election.
Amupitan said the recent voter registration exercise resulted in more than 10.7 million new registrations across the country.
He called for the removal of bottlenecks affecting the distribution of PVCs at the Local Government Area level, stressing the need to ensure that eligible citizens are not disenfranchised.
The INEC chairman also disclosed that the commission was refining its technological systems ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the upgrades cover voter verification and result transmission, as well as the commission’s Result Management Systems, including the recently introduced eEC8A.
Amupitan further said INEC was adopting a “Zero-Failure” approach to election logistics.
He explained that the strategy would focus on the early deployment of election materials, transportation, security coordination and the training of ad-hoc personnel.
The commission said the measures were part of its preparations to strengthen election administration and ensure a smooth conduct of the 2027 General Election.
