Nearly seven years after the abduction of social media activist and lecturer, Abubakar Idris, fresh controversy has emerged over allegations that two senior police officers may be linked to his disappearance and alleged killing.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed the Police Monitoring Unit to investigate claims against CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba following petitions filed by Kano-based activist and human rights lawyer, Abba Hikima.
The petitions were triggered by allegations made by Muhammad Musa Kamarawa, a former Senior Special Assistant to immediate past Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle, according to Daily Trust report.
Kamarawa reportedly alleged that the officers threatened him and claimed they had killed Dadiyata and others in his presence at Operations Yaki in Kaduna.
In the petition, the legal team argued that a transparent investigation would clear the officers if the allegations were false, but insisted justice must prevail if the claims are proven true, regardless of status or influence.
The petition also called for the establishment of an independent investigative panel, citing growing public concern over Dadiyata’s unresolved disappearance.
Confirming receipt of the petitions, the IGP, through his Principal Staff Officer, CF Lateef Adio Ahmed, said the matter had been referred to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Monitoring Unit for immediate action.
Dadiyata was abducted from his residence in Barnawa in August 2019 by unidentified gunmen. His disappearance remains one of Nigeria’s most high-profile unresolved cases, with persistent calls for justice and accountability.
