Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has disclosed that his proposed security outfit, “Iru Ekun Security Network,” is awaiting approval from the Federal Government as part of efforts to combat insecurity in the South-West.
Igboho also pledged to comply fully with the newly signed executive order by the Oyo State Government regulating the operations of private security organisations and community-based security groups in the state.
In a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, the activist said all necessary registration documents and procedural requirements for the establishment of the security outfit had already been submitted to the appropriate federal authorities.
According to him, the organisation is expected to work closely with conventional security agencies once approval is granted.
“We have submitted all the required documents for our registered security firm, ‘Iru Ekun Security Network’, and are only waiting for the Federal Government’s approval, which will be granted soon,” he stated.
Igboho explained that the proposed outfit was designed to support ongoing efforts to rid forests and rural communities in the South-West of kidnappers, terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements threatening residents.
“We are absolutely ready to collaborate with the Police, Department of State Service, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other relevant stakeholders in the security sector to flush out terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and other hoodlums, who are threatening the peace and safety of our people, most especially in the rural communities,” he added.
His remarks followed the signing of Executive Order 001 of 2026 by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on May 20. The order seeks to regulate associations, groups and organisations involved in security and allied services across the state.
Makinde had explained that the directive became necessary due to rising security concerns and the increasing number of unregulated vigilante and community security groups operating without proper coordination.
The governor said the policy was aimed at ensuring that all security-related organisations function within a clearly defined legal and operational structure that promotes peace, public order and adherence to the rule of law.
Reacting to the development, Igboho expressed support for the initiative and affirmed that his organisation would cooperate with the state government’s framework.
“Besides, I want to state that we are also ready to comply with the new Executive Order issued by Governor Seyi Makinde to regulate the activities of private security concerns. We are ready to support and cooperate with measures aimed at strengthening the security and peace in Oyo and other states in Yorubaland,” he said.
The activist also commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as renewed efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and address criminal activities across the country.
“It is obvious that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is resolutely committed to tackling criminalities not only in the South-West but also in all other regions plagued by insecurity,” he said.
Igboho further stressed that security and stability remained critical to economic growth, especially in agrarian communities that contribute significantly to the nation’s food production.
“Without peace and security, healthy socioeconomic developments cannot thrive, most especially in the rural communities which remain the hub of agricultural production critical to the nation’s food security and means of livelihood for farmers,” he added.
