The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of mounting a coordinated campaign against Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu out of fear ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
In a strongly worded statement signed by the Ogun State PDP Youth Leader, Comrade Lukman Ejalonibu, the opposition party described recent comments by APC chieftain, Comrade Olamide Lawal, against Adebutu as evidence of growing panic within the ruling party.
According to the PDP, it is contradictory for the APC to publicly dismiss Adebutu as “not a threat” while simultaneously making him the focus of repeated political attacks.
“It is both amusing and contradictory that the same APC which claims Adebutu is not a threat continues to devote so much time and energy discussing him,” the statement read.
“No political party spends valuable airtime attacking an opponent it considers irrelevant. The APC’s growing fixation on Hon. Adebutu only confirms that his growing popularity and acceptance among the people of Ogun State have become impossible to ignore.”
The PDP defended Adebutu’s record as a former member of the House of Representatives, insisting that his achievements in constituency interventions, educational support, youth empowerment and community development remain visible across the state.
The party described Adebutu as “an authentic son of Ogun State” whose connection with the people predates electoral politics and is rooted in years of humanitarian and grassroots engagements.
The statement also criticised the APC for allegedly relying on zoning arguments instead of addressing issues of governance and performance.
“It is curious that the APC has chosen to hide behind zoning arguments rather than engage in meaningful conversations about governance, leadership and performance,” the PDP stated.
“The people of Ogun State are intelligent enough to determine who possesses the vision, capacity and compassion required to lead them.”
The opposition party further challenged the APC-led administration to explain lingering socio-economic challenges in the state, including unemployment, infrastructure deficits and economic hardship affecting residents.
According to the PDP, Ogun people are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with what it described as “politics built on propaganda” rather than service-driven leadership.
The party maintained that it remains focused on providing what it called a “credible alternative” ahead of the next governorship contest.
“The PDP is not distracted by the noise coming from the ruling party. Our focus remains on mobilising the people around a vision of responsible, inclusive and people-centred governance,” the statement added.
The PDP concluded by insisting that Adebutu remains a major force in Ogun politics and warned the APC against underestimating his influence ahead of 2027.
“As 2027 approaches, the APC should stop pretending that the Adebutu factor does not exist and begin preparing for the political reality ahead,” the statement concluded.
