Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has called on residents to uphold unity, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, regardless of their religious, ethnic or political differences.
Kefas made the appeal on Saturday at a one-day summit organised by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Muslim Religious Matters, Hussaini Ismail.
The summit brought together Islamic organisations, religious leaders, scholars and other community stakeholders to discuss peace, unity, good governance and sustainable development in the state.
The governor cautioned against efforts to divide Taraba along religious or ethnic lines, stressing that the state belongs to all its citizens.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance, improved welfare and people-centred development, urging residents to support initiatives that promote a peaceful and united Taraba.
Participants commended the administration for its efforts in education, peacebuilding and improving citizens’ welfare.
Speaking at the event, Ismail urged Tarabans to reject tribalism, political divisions and other sentiments capable of threatening peace and peaceful coexistence.
He also praised the governor for his support for Islamic education and religious institutions, saying the gesture had contributed to the advancement of learning across the state.
Islamic scholars, traditional leaders and other participants called for stronger collaboration among government, religious institutions and traditional authorities to strengthen peace, unity and sustainable development in Taraba.
