The family of detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has suspended the services of his two legal counsel – Mike Ozekhome SAN and Bar. Ifeanyi Ejiofor.
The secessionist’s younger brother, Kanunta Kanu who made this known in a tweet on Thursday, said Ozekhome, SAN, and Bar. Ejiofor has been sacked.
The development, he said, followed the inability of the lawyers to see their client who is being detained within the facility of the Department of State Services, DSS Headquarters Abuja.
Kanunta also accused the lawyers of allegedly frustrating earlier plans for medical doctors to attend to the secessionist at the DSS custody.
He said, “After Nnadmi Kanu’s case on 11th May 2023, Prof Mike Ozekhome SAN has refused to see his client in DSS headquarters Abuja even after several messages from MNK to see him.
“Secondly, for stopping the medical doctors who were to examine MNK on 5th June even when he and Bar. Ifeanyi Ejiofor were duly informed on 2nd June and MNK told them to inform his family to arrange that.
“For those obvious reasons and many more, Prof Mike Ozekhome SAN and Bar. Ifeanyi Ejiofor are hereby sacked as Nnamdi Kanu’s Counsels.
“The Kanu family do appreciate your time and efforts so far, please hand over the legal documents ASAP.”
