An Abeokuta based broadcast journalist, Kunle Alaye, has been listed among dozens of other PhD graduates produced by the Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos by the Vice – Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji – Bello during the institution’s 26th convocation ceremony on Thursday.
Kunle Alaye bagged a PhD degree in Political Science, (Political Economy Theory) from LASU.

The Political Science department of Lagos State University (LASU) which was established in 1986 produced its first PhD graduate in 2022 . That first PhD graduate of the department is Dr. Tukur Mustapha Adedej.
The former students’union welfare officer of the then Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, (2000/2001) academic session, could not hold back his tears of joy immediately, the Post Graduate School of the Lagos State University pronounced him with the degree of the Doctor of Phylosophy (PhD) in Political Science with a speciality in Political Economy Theory in March this year.
During the convocation ceremony yesterday at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Ojo that had in attendance the Visitor and Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Chancellor, Professor Gbolahan Elias, SAN, Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Fanu, former Minister of Works, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) who was conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degree; wife of former Governor of Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Fayemi and her husband, Dr Kayode Fayemi, excitement and sense of fulfillment suffused the face of Kunle Alaye for accomplishing once again, one of his life dreams.
Other dignitaries that also graced the ceremony and added colour and glamour to it included Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Mudashiru Obasa and Elegushi of Ikateland, Oba Saheed Elegushi (Kusenla III) was conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degree.
The elated newest PhD holder told The Daily Crucible that studying for a PhD degree in Nigerian Public University, was challenging and demanding, but added that with resilience and perseverance the set goal was achieved.
The broadcast journalist who had earlier read World Heritage and Diplomatic Studies (International Relations) from Brandenburg University Cottbus, Germany, combines broadcasting with academics since his return from Europe, after bagging his masters degree from one of the prestigious European universities, Brandenburg University Germany.
Dr. Alaye is currently a lecturer at the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Chrisland University Abeokuta Ogun State, Nigeria.
He has practiced as a broadcast journalist with major electronic media organisations in Abeokuta, since his return to Nigeria, in November, 2014. This include: Ogun State Television, Rockcity FM and currently with Root 97.1 FM all in Abeokuta, Ogun State Nigeria. Prior, he had worked with Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State BCOS Ibadan and he still consults as a media expert.
The Dr of Political Economy, has won different international awards and scholarships whilst he continues to thrive more in the academic and media world. He is happily married to Dr/Mrs Adetinuadewa Alaye, an educationist with the Ogun State government.
