The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Subomi(also called Raheem) and Wahab, sons of billionaire industrialist Razaq Okoya, for questioning over a trending video depicting possible naira abuse.
The notice to appear before the agency was signed by Michael Wetkas, Acting Director of Lagos Directorate of the EFCC, instructing the duo to appear before the head of the Special Operations Team at its office located at 15A Awolowo Road, Lagos, by 10 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025.
The Daily Crucible reports that earlier, the Nigeria Police Force had also identified and detailed for investigation, its officer who was allegedly involved in the alleged naira abuse by Raheem and Wahab Okoya.
The two brothers ran into trouble with the authority after the video showing them flaunting and spraying bundles of N1,000 notes in a promotional clip for Raheem’s new song surfaced on the social media.
The new song is titled “Credit Alert.”
In the video, the two sons adorned white agbadas, danced while a mobile policeman held bundles of crisp naira notes, which they hurled intermittently into the air.
The act, perceived by many as disrespectful of the country’s notes and enabling law, drew outrage on social media, with some Nigerians doubting the readiness and commitment of the authority to hold them to account due to their father’s place in society.
