A Nigerian businessman, Abibu Yakubu, has dragged his ex-wife before the Upper Area Court 1 in Karu over her alleged refusal to vacate his house years after their divorce.
Yakubu is also seeking custody of their four children.
The petitioner filed the suit against his estranged wife, Shuwadatu Mohammed, on October 13, 2025.
According to the court filings, Yakubu, who resides at Orange Market, Mararaba, in Karu Local Government Area, stated that the respondent, his former wife, still lives at the same address despite the dissolution of their marriage.
He alleged that Mohammed constantly disrespects and insults him as well as his parents.
Yakubu told the court that the union produced four children aged 22, 19, and six-year-old twins.
He further alleged that he divorced his wife about five years ago, but she has refused to leave his residence.
According to him, the respondent allegedly threatened that she would not leave the house “until she killed him.”
The businessman also claimed that Mohammed has continued to occupy the house while threatening his life, adding that he “no longer sleeps with his eyes closed.”
He urged the court to hold the respondent responsible should anything happen to him.
Yakubu also asked the court to formally reaffirm the dissolution of the marriage and grant him custody of the children.
After listening to the matter, the presiding judge, Mohammed Yakubu, adjourned the case until June 3 for continued hearing. (NAN)
