Family, friends, music legends and admirers gathered in Lagos for a colourful and emotional celebration marking the 90th birthday of Pa Benson Idonije — respected music critic, veteran broadcaster, and grandfather of Grammy-winning Afrofusion star .
The glamorous event drew an impressive lineup of dignitaries, celebrities and cultural icons, turning the occasion into a powerful tribute to one of Nigeria’s most influential figures in music history.
As guests arrived in elegant fashion on the red carpet, the evening reflected more than just glitz and glamour. It became a celebration of a remarkable legacy that connects generations of African music greatness — from the pioneering Afrobeat era of to the global success story of Burna Boy.
Pa Idonije holds a unique place in Nigeria’s entertainment and cultural history. Beyond his years as a respected broadcaster and music critic, he also served as the former manager of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti during the formative years of Afrobeat.
