The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has organised a sensitisation programme for staff of the Ogun State Ministry of Information and Strategy to promote compliance with ethical standards and constitutional provisions guiding public officers.
The programme, held at the Press Centre, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, focused on educating officers on the importance of proper assets and liabilities declaration in line with the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Waheed Adesina, said the sensitisation exercise was aimed at ensuring that all public servants comply with the constitutional requirement on asset declaration.
Adesina urged Information Officers to pay close attention to the presentations, participate actively and seek clarification on issues relating to the Bureau and the declaration process. According to him, strict compliance with the Code would further strengthen transparency, accountability and integrity in the Public Service.
In her presentation, the Ogun State Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mrs. Titilayo Evbuomwam, disclosed that the Assets and Liabilities Declaration Form for Public Officers had been reviewed with significant modifications to improve the process.
She explained the provisions of the Code of Conduct as enshrined in the Constitution, highlighting offences such as conflict of interest, receiving double remuneration from government, abuse of office, operating prohibited foreign bank accounts, making false declarations and failure to declare assets.
Mrs. Evbuomwam also stressed the need for officers to disclose assets owned directly or indirectly through spouses, children, agents or nominees, urging participants to familiarise themselves with the revised form to ensure accurate and timely compliance.
Also speaking, the State Operations and Schedule Officer of the Bureau, Mr. Molade Ajigbotafe, gave participants a detailed explanation of the newly introduced 24-page declaration form. He advised officers to carefully study the guidelines before filling out the document and responded to questions raised during the interactive session.
In her remarks, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the Ministry, Mrs. Toluwalope Kowo, appreciated officials of the Bureau for organising the enlightenment programme and equipping officers with valuable knowledge on the revised asset declaration process.
