Olanrewaju Takes Over From Mba In Ogun As PSC Appoints 12 New Police Commissioners

A new police commissioner, Oladimeji Yomi Olanrewaju, has been posted to Ogun Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Olanrewaju succeeds Police Commissioner Frank Mba, who has just been recently promoted to the position of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and redeployed for a higher responsibility.

ComPol Oladimeji Yomi Olanrewaju is

a graduate of History/political science joined the Nigeria Police Force as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1990 and he was trained at Police Academy, Kaduna annex.

At the completion of his training, the new CP was posted to Edo state Police Command, where he served in different capacity in several divisional headquarters in the Command. He was one time Police Public Relations Officer of Edo state Police Command, he also served as Divisional Police Officer in Auchi, Uromi, New Benin as well as 2i/c Departments of operations Edo state Police Command.

He was later posted to Ogun state, where he served as DPO Mowe and Ilaro divisional headquarters as well as acting Area Commander Ilaro area command.

When he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of police, he was posted to Sokoto state as the Assistant Commissioner of police Department of Finance and Administration. From Sokoto state, he was posted to Benue state as Assistant Commissioner of police in-charge of State Criminal Investigation Departments.

The new CP was also one time Area commander Abakaliki metro in Ebonyi state.

As a Deputy Commissioner of Police, the new CP served as Deputy Commissioner in-charge of State Criminal Investigation Departments in Borno state as well as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Departments of Finance and Administration in River state.

When he got promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police, he was posted to Force Criminal Investigation Departments Alagbon Annex as CP Anti Fraud section. That was his last duty post before his deployment as the new helmsman for Ogun state Police Command .

The new CP also has a Bachelor Degree in law and he has been called to Bar.

Compol Olanrewaju who was seconded to Anti – Fraud Unit, FCID Annex, Lagos, in 2021, is among a dozen police officers who have been appointed commissioners and deployed to different State Commands across the Country by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Other new Commissioners of Police appointed alongside Olanrewaju are; Mohammed Usaini Gumel posted to Kano State Command; Haruna Gabriel Garba; Federal Capital Territory, FCT Command Abuja; Tajudeen A. Abass, Delta Command; Taiwo Jesubiyi, Ondo Command and Julius A. Okoro; Benue Command.

Also appointed are: Romokere Ibiani, Bayelsa Command; Mohammed Bunu, Yobe Command; Garba Musa Yusuf, Kaduna Command; Garba Ahmed, Zamfara Command; Hayatu Kaigama Ali, Sokoto Command and Aliyu Musa, Katsina Command.

According to a statement on Tuesday by the PSC Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani: “Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, CFR, retired Inspector General of Police, called for greater dedication to national duty from the new State Command Commissioners.”

Arase said the new posting comes with a lot of commitment and innovativeness and demands total loyalty to the nation.

He noted during this national transition period, the new State Command Commissioners must brace up for challenges in the course of their duties.

The PSC Chairman advised them to quickly settle down to duty and tackle the security challenges in their respective states of posting.
