Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West), the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Ogun State, has threatened legal action against Hon. Abayomi Hunye, a suspended APC member from Tube, Ipokia Local Government Area, and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over what he described as false and libelous statements made about him and his family on national television.
Hunye and Marcus-Bello recently appeared on programmes on Channels Television, where they alleged, among other claims, that Senator Adeola is an indigene of Ekiti State. According to the senator, neither presented evidence to substantiate the allegation.
In a statement by Chief Kayode Odunaro, Senator Adeola’s
Media Adviser, the APC governorship candidate consequently gave the two individuals 24 hours to publicly provide evidence supporting their claims about his state of origin or face legal action over what he described as false and libelous allegations aired on national television and subsequently circulated across other media platforms.
“I watched in utter disbelief as these individuals, whom I hardly know, made assertions about my origin without providing any proof. One of them claimed on television that I am from Ekiti State but, when asked to identify where exactly in Ekiti, could not provide an answer.
“The other made claims about the locations of my parents’ graves, apparently in an attempt to justify an allegation that is without basis. Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence within 24 hours or be prepared to face legal action,” the senator said.
It will be recalled that allegations about the senator’s purported Ekiti State origin were previously deployed as a political propaganda tool in an attempt to prevent his emergence as the senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District. The effort, however, failed, as the people of the district voted massively for him in the 2023 National Assembly elections.
Senator Adeola described the renewed allegation as a revival of what he called a falsehood, which he believes is connected to his bid for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
