The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of popular political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, who was attacked at his residence in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Danshagamu was reportedly attacked at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2026, after suspected hoodlums allegedly forced their way into his residence and assaulted him with sharp objects.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the command received a distress call from the Commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group and immediately deployed officers from the Kumbotso Police Division to the scene.
The victim was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed the Kumbotso Divisional Police Officer to collaborate with tactical units and community stakeholders to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The directive resulted in an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked to the killing.
The suspects are currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation. Investigators are also obtaining statements and conducting forensic procedures to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the motive behind the attack.
Police said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals who may have been involved in the crime.
CP Bakori expressed concern over the killing and extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, assuring residents that the command would pursue justice.
“The Kano State Police Command will not relent in its mandate to protect lives and property. We assure the good people of Kano that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion,” the commissioner said.
The command commended the Gaida Vigilante Group for providing timely information that enabled a swift police response, describing the development as a reminder of the importance of community cooperation in combating crime.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police through the nearest station or emergency lines.
The police said the investigation was ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court upon its conclusion.
Additional patrols and intelligence-gathering operations have also been deployed in Gaida and neighbouring areas to maintain law and order and prevent any breakdown of peace.
