Spiritualist and social media influencer, Angela Nwosu, has spoken publicly about an alleged traumatic incident she says she experienced as a teenager, describing how it has shaped her approach to parenting and her life today.
In a video shared online, Nwosu, now a mother, alleged that at age 14 she was subjected to physical assault by her mother and father after being accused of having a relationship with a male friend — an allegation she said was false.
She claimed her father held her down with his foot on her chest while her mother allegedly used a mixture of pepper and kerosene on her private part, causing severe pain and injury.
Nwosu said the incident left her with physical complications, including persistent discharge and odour, which led to embarrassment at home and in school. She added that the emotional impact of the event followed her into adulthood.
“I spent years blaming myself for what happened,” she said. “Even now as an adult, I’m still trying to find closure.”
“I Don’t Want to Repeat the Cycle”
Now raising her own children, Nwosu said the experience directly influences how she disciplines them.
“I don’t want to end up like my mother. I don’t want to do to them what my mother did to me,” she stated.
She said sharing her story is part of her healing process and an attempt to speak against harmful forms of child discipline.
Child rights advocates note that corporal punishment involving caustic substances constitutes abuse and is punishable under Nigeria’s Child Rights Act and various state laws.
Nwosu said that while she has moved on with her life and family, the memories still affect her. She called for more conversations around non-violent parenting and support for survivors of childhood abuse.
