A petition has been submitted to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, seeking an investigation into allegations that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, facilitated commercial air travel for a passenger using multiple identities.
The petition, dated July 12 and copied to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was reportedly written by an individual who identified himself as an employee in Nigeria’s aviation industry but withheld his identity.
According to the petitioner, Obi allegedly assisted a female passenger, described as one of his media aides, in travelling on commercial flights in a manner that violated aviation security procedures and passenger identification protocols.
The petition claimed that the passenger had previously been barred from flying with Air Peace over alleged misconduct at airports but continued to board the airline’s flights under different names.
It further alleged that Obi accompanied the passenger on several trips and made arrangements that enabled her to bypass the airline’s restrictions.
The petitioner also alleged that airport officials were prevented from conducting identity verification checks whenever Obi travelled with the passenger, despite concerns reportedly raised by ground staff.
As part of the complaint, the petitioner said copies of flight tickets and Passenger Name Records (PNRs) were attached as supporting evidence and urged the Ministry of Aviation, the NCAA and the EFCC to investigate whether aviation regulations and passenger identification procedures were breached.
As of the time of filing this report, the allegations had not been independently verified, and Peter Obi had not publicly responded to the petition. The aviation authorities and the EFCC have also not issued any official statement on the matter.
