The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has formally expelled a former assembly aspirant of the Party, Solomon Enilolobo for anti party and other offences that violated the party’s constitution.
Enilolobo was expelled by the Abeokuta-South local government chapter of the PDP for also publicly declaring for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in Ogun State weeks to the just concluded elections in the state.
The Chairman of ward 7, Chief Tajudeen Oyewole who announced the expulsion at a meeting of the ward at the weekend said the action was coming officially after Solomon Enilolobo was seen openly decamping to the APC.
He said a committee was quickly set up to look into Enilolobo’s act of betrayal and other activities which impugn on the credibility of the party.
Chief Oyewole disclosed that the notice for expulsion was moved by Oke Idi-Iroko zone youth leader, Mr Jamiu Adegoke and seconded by Funlayo James, while the 186 members present at the meeting ratified the expulsion.
According to the chairman, “in pursuant to the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), Solomon Enilolobo is hereby expelled after the committee has briefed the entire 186 members present at the ward meeting which unanimously agreed that disciplinary actions be taken against him for publicly decamping to the APC.”
Chief Oyewole noted that the expulsion takes effect from Saturday, February 25th, 2023, having found Enilolobo guilty of anti-party activities and other grave offences in violation of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).”
“The PDP urges all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of our party across the Local Government to remain united and focused at this critical time,” he added.
But reacting, Enilolobo says the party is only jittery of a looming post election litigation and perhaps has deluded itself into believing the expulsion would help avert the situation.
Describing his purported expulsion as an exercise in futility, Enilolobo told The Daily Crucible that he left the PDP weeks ago wilfully, wondering where lies the wisdom in suspending someone’s membership of a particular group or party when the individual had willingly ceased to be a member.
He likened the action taken by the PDP to “flogging a dead child,” meaning it would have no impact whatsoever.
He said, “PDP is only being jittery of an impending post election case. It’s an exercise in futility. I left the party willfully since March 13th. So expelling me or suspending me like beating a dead child.
“You can only suspend a member of the party, you cannot expel someone who left the party weeks ago,” he said.
