The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, on Wednesday joined cyclists and environmental advocates across the globe to commemorate the 2026 United Nations World Bicycle Day with a vibrant cycling rally in Abeokuta.
The event, held in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, Ogun State Branch, was organized in line with the directive of the Corps Marshal to promote cycling as a healthy, eco-friendly, and sustainable mode of transportation.
Leading the rally was the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, alongside senior officers of the command, Special Marshals, FRSC personnel, and members of the Cycling Federation.
Addressing participants during the event, Ogunjobi emphasized the numerous benefits of cycling, describing it as a simple but effective way to improve personal health, physical fitness, and environmental sustainability.
He noted that increased adoption of bicycles could significantly reduce carbon emissions while encouraging healthier lifestyles among Nigerians.
“World Bicycle Day offers an important opportunity to raise awareness about the value of cycling and encourage communities to embrace bicycles as affordable, reliable, and environmentally friendly means of transportation,” he said.
As part of the celebration, participants embarked on a five-kilometre cycling rally from the FRSC Sector Command Headquarters to OPIC Roundabout and back.
The event was conducted peacefully without any safety or security incidents.
The FRSC Ogun Sector Command reaffirmed its commitment to promoting road safety, healthy living, environmental sustainability, and safer mobility for all road users.
The annual World Bicycle Day, observed every June 3, was established by the United Nations to recognize the uniqueness, longevity, and versatility of bicycles as a sustainable means of transportation.
