A 73-year-old Nigerian pilgrim from Adamawa State, Mallama Aishatu Muhammadu, has died in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia shortly after arriving for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
Mallama Aishatu, who hailed from Gombi Local Government Area, reportedly suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on Saturday while travelling from Jeddah to the holy city of Madinah.
The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Ismail Abba Yusuf, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased on behalf of the Federal Government.
In a telephone conversation with the deceased’s brother, Umaru Jauro Koko, the NAHCON chairman prayed for Almighty Allah to grant Mallama Aishatu Aljannatul Firdaus and comfort her grieving family.
He also assured the family of the government’s support in facilitating the safe return of her personal belongings, including her Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) and death certificate, through the Adamawa State Pilgrims Welfare Commission.
The late pilgrim is survived by several children, grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Among her surviving relatives is Abdullahi Bello, a Divisional Officer with the Ganye Division of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
