Coalition of Civil Society Organizations and Pro-Democracy Activists in Ogun State on Wednesday converged in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital to mark the 2025 World Human Rights Day.
The programme that had in attendance top government dignitaries, human rights advocates, and representatives of various civic groups in the state, amplified advocacy for the protection and promotion of human rights demanding accountability from those involved in abuses such as police brutality, social violence, assaults, and repression. It also called for a stronger economy, true democracy, and good governance.
Speaking with newsmen after the event, the Ogun State NBA Chairman, Barr. Kayode Aderemi, urged the media to strengthen their approach to reporting human rights issues, stressing the need to highlight fundamental rights more effectively.
Also speaking, the convener of the Coalition noted that the gathering forms part of continuous efforts to raise awareness s on rights abuses across the country, while calling for a just and equitable society
The event however featured an emotional moment when participants observed a one-minute silence in honour of the late human rights activist, Tunde Oladunjoye who was said to have died in the struggle and course for a just society.
