The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has advised Nigerians to take advantage of pharmacists’ accessibility by seeking their expertise in medicines, preventive health and lifestyle change.
PSN said the measure will ensure that health outcomes improve and communities become more resilient.
Chairman of PSN Ogun State, Pharm.(Mrs) Oyesunlola Okunuga, who gave the charge on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the state capital ahead of September 25th World Pharmacists Day, also urged the nation’s policy makers to prioritise creation of enabling environments that allow pharmacists to fully utilise their skills in all levels of healthcare.
The theme of this year’s edition of World Pharmacists Day is: “Think Health, Think Pharmacist.”
Pharm. Okunuga explained that to ‘think health’ is to imagine a society where well-being is prioritised while to “think pharmacist’ is to recognise the professional who makes that vision a reality.
The state PSN boss also harped on the need to strengthen interprofessional collaboration among doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other health providers to ensure a cohesive team in the patient’s interest, even as she stressed that no health system can thrive without pharmacists.
According to her, behind every successful treatment plan is a pharmacist who provides the right guidance.
She saluted all pharmacists across the state and Nigeria for their commitment and resilience, saying their daily sacrifices, though often unseen, are the backbone of healthier communities.
She said, “The public must also take advantage of the pharmacist’s accessibility by seeking their expertise not only for medicines, but also for preventive health and lifestyle guidance.
“By doing so, we ensure that health outcomes improve and communities become more resilient.
“The message of this year’s World Pharmacists Day is clear: no health system can thrive without pharmacists. Behind every safe medicine is the pharmacist who ensures quality and proper use. Behind every successful treatment plan is the pharmacist who provides the right guidance. Behind every healthy community is the pharmacist who educates, advocates, and innovates. To ‘Think Health’ is to imagine a society where well-being is prioritized, and to ‘Think Pharmacist’ is to recognize the professional who makes that vision a reality.”
