The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, has described the official gazette of the Bill establishing the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), as a “historic development” and a new dawn for Yewaland.
Elated Oba Olugbenle who could scarcely hide his immense joy over the development, said that the gazette formalizing the conversion of the hitherto federal polytechnic to Federal University of Technology signaled a new dawn for the educational and socio-economic advancement of Yewaland, Ogun West and indeed, Ogun State.
The Daily Crucible reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had in May this year signed into law the bill establishing the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), thereby upgrading the existing Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro in Ogun State to a full-fledged university.
The announcement was made at tbe time by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who commended President Tinubu for the landmark decision and congratulated Senator Olamilekan Adeola (APC, Ogun West)—the sponsor of the bill—and the people of Ogun West and Ogun State at large.
The bill, which had passed its third reading in October 2024, officially marks the transformation of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro into a university-level institution.
And the official gazette of the federal government of Nigeria regarding the FUTI was published in Lagos May 16, 2025.
Reacting through a release made available to The Daily Crucible at the weekend, the monarch commended Senator Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI) for his unrelenting effort and strategic advocacy towards the actualisation of the long-desired vision.
The Paramount Ruler of Yewaland also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his responsive leadership and nationalistic disposition in assenting to the Bill and facilitating its publication in the official gazette.
“It is with immense joy and a deep sense of gratitude that we announce the official gazette of the Bill establishing the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), a historic development that marks a new dawn for the educational and socio-economic advancement of Yewaland, Ogun West and indeed, Ogun State at large.
“On behalf of the good people of Yewaland, I express our profound appreciation to Distinguished Senator (Aremo) Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI) for his unrelenting effort and strategic advocacy towards the actualisation of this long-desired vision.
“That the gazette comes in the month of Senator Adeola’s birthday makes it even more symbolic. FUTI’s gazette is the best birthday gift to generations of Ogun West sons and daughters who now have a Federal University to call their own.
“We equally extend heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his responsive leadership and nationalistic disposition in assenting to the Bill and facilitating its publication in the official gazette.
