Grave apprehension is said to have taken the better part of the condition of some officials of the Ogun State government over the ongoing investigation into financial matters by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
About four officials of the Ogun State Government were said to have been invited earlier by the Ibadan Zonal office of the EFCC early this week for questioning in relation to the said ongoing investigation and even when they had all returned to Abeokuta after they were quizzed, it was learnt that they and others have been overtaken by palpable worries over uncertainty about the agency’s next move.
Sources said though the four officials are on an administrative bail but one of them has developed what could be reckoned in medical circle as “hypertension” after the blood pressure suddenly went up when the anti – graft agency confronted them with loads of documents pertaining to the matters being investigated.
The Daily Crucible learnt that the matter may be connected to the question of who or what agency is overseeing the Allocations meant for the 20 local governments in the state.
A former Chairman, Ijebu East Local Government, Mr. Wale Adedayo, was said to have written a petition to the anti – graft agency in August last year, accusing the Ogun State Government on the watch of Prince Dapo Abiodun of diverting allocations meant for the local governments. And part of the matter is pending at the state high court, Abeokuta.
A source close to the Ogun State Ministry of Finance claimed that the affected officials were palpably shocked that the EFCC could go that far to the extent that one of them invited along with the Accountant General to the EFCC office in Ibadan developed High Blood Pressure after the loads of documents pertaining to the investigation were brought to their attention.
According to the source, the particular official was later rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
However, no official of the state government was readily available to comment on or confirm this latest development as of the time of filing the report.
The Daily Crucible reports that the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, had reportedly confirmed the development yesterday that the Ibadan zonal office of the agency invited some officials of the state government in respect of an ongoing investigation and they had since returned to Ogun State.
Oyewale who also confirmed people as Ogun State officials, reportedly said the matter relates to an ongoing investigation.
This is a very interesting issues militating against good governance in Ogun State and other parts of the country. However, the media and the EFCC should also focus on the budgetary allocation of the Ogun State ministry of agriculture since 1999. What has happened to the agriculture ministry annual budgets since 1999.
