Five people have died and 10 others gravely injured following multiple vehicles accident which occurred on Wednesday at the NASFAST stretch of the Lagos – Ibadan expressway.
The crash occurred at about 09.56am, involved a total of 15 persons and three vehicles with registration numbers KUT561ZZ (Daf Truck), GGE84YF (Toyota bus) and unmarked Man diesel truck.
The Chief Route Commander and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Public Education Officer,Florence Okpe, who disclosed this on behalf of the Ogun State Commander of the FRSC, Anthony Uga, attributed the cause to dangerous driving on the part of one of the trucks who made a sudden U-turn without any indication to alert the truck coming from the rear.
According to Okpe, this led to loss of control by drivers of the truck and bus, with the two crashing into the side of the one ahead.
“A total of 15 people were involved which comprised of 11 male adult and 04 female adult. 10 were seriously injured ( 06 male and 04 female adult) and 05 persons were killed from the multiple crash.( 05 male adult).
“The injured victims were taken to famobi Hospital Mowe while the corpses were deposited at Idera Hospital morgue Sagamu,” she stated.
She quoted Anthony Uga as cautioning motorists on speed and reckless driving, warning that any driver involved in a crash that claim lives will be prosecuted forthwith to serve as deterrent to others
